Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim Khalad is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Jahangirnagar University. He completed his PhD at the Australian National University, where his research examined the intersections of displacement, masculinity, and everyday life among Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

Trained in social anthropology, Khalad’s work engages with questions of migration, gender, and the lived experiences of marginality. His doctoral research offers an ethnographically grounded account of how Rohingya men negotiate and reconfigure notions of manhood within the constrained and uncertain conditions of refugee camps. By situating masculinity within broader structures of humanitarian governance and displacement, his work contributes to ongoing debates in the anthropology of gender and forced migration.

Prior to his doctoral studies, Khalad completed a second master’s degree at the International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam. His thesis, “Ambiguous Positionalities: Bangladeshi Migrant Men in The Hague,” was awarded distinction and received the Best Research Paper Award. Khalad’s broader research interests include the anthropology of migration, masculinity, humanitarianism, and South Asian societies. His work is particularly attentive to how global processes—such as displacement, development, and governance—are experienced, negotiated, and contested in everyday life.
