Matt Withers is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology within the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences. His research delves into the relationship between temporary labour migration and development in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly Sri Lanka and Pacific Island Countries. His book, Sri Lanka’s Remittance Economy, explores the limitations of remittances for development. His ongoing work investigates the gendered care aspects of transnational family separation within the migration-development discourse, focusing on the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme.
