Peter Varela is a Research Fellow at the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute in the Crawford School of Public Policy at ANU. Peter has previously worked at the Australian Treasury and the Australian Productivity Commission. He holds a PhD in Economics from ANU, and has been a visiting researcher at Columbia University, at the University of Michigan, and at the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research. Peter is the Lead Author of the Treasury’s landmark study of the Fiscal Impacts of New Australians (FIONA).
