Prof James Raymer

PhD in Geography (University of Colorado)

James Raymer is a Professor of Demography at the ANU. He focuses on migration's impact on population change. With a PhD from the University of Colorado, he joined ANU in 2013, leading its School of Demography till 2016. His migration research has been funded by many prestigious national and international research councils, and by clients such as Eurostat, the Office for National Statistics, National Records for Scotland, the United Nations Statistical Division, and the United Nations Population Division. He also teaches courses on migration, spatial population analysis, and population projections.

Research Interest

James Raymer's research focuses on the study of demographic processes. He is especially interested in how migration influences population change. He has engaged in many interdisciplinary and international research collaborations on topics ranging from statistical estimation of migration to population forecasting.  

He is currently leading a five-year project on school enrolment analyses and projections funded by the Australian Capital Territory Education Directorate.
