James O’Donnell is a Lecturer in ANU's School of Demography. His research centers on social cohesion within neighborhoods, with interests span housing, homelessness, labor markets, and demographic changes. James leads the Scanlon Foundation Research Institute's Mapping Social Cohesion study, examining social cohesion challenges in Australia. He's part of the ANU Social Cohesion project, measuring cohesion in communities and developing interventions. In 2023, he received an ARC DECRA Fellowship to study social cohesion's demographic and life course drivers.

Research Interest

James is a demographer whose current research is focused on understanding and measuring social cohesion within and across neighbourhoods. His broader research interests include:
